It is about 150 meters wide and about 3 kilometers long. In the past (before 1957), Bueng Sam Phanis was rich in aquatic species, especially crocodiles, which the number of them is estimated no less than 3,000. At present, there is evidence of many crocodile bones in the at Wat Bueng Sampan Lang, Moo 5, Bueng Samphan Subdistrict. Referred to Mr. Yao Charoensuk, aged 90, died in 2001, he used to be a crocodile catcher at Bueng Sam Phan for sale since 1950, with the price of 12 baht per inch, measuring the wide side of a crocodile. Mr. Yao Charoensuk was a key person of the crocodile farm in Samutprakan as he showed catching crocodiles to visitors of this crocodile farm every day. Everybody in the crocodile farm called him Ajarn. Mr. Yao was also invited to appear on a TV program, Twilight Show, operated by Mr.Traiphop Limpapat on Channel 3. He said that when he was a child, he was stubborn and did not help his parents to do farming. One day, he met a monk who taught him how to catch and kill crocodiles and wild animals and the monk also gave him a knife. Then, he hunted crocodiles for living for many years before starting to work as a permanent employee at the crocodile farm in Samut Prakan for the rest of his life. Mr. Yao said that he had heard the rumor that in 1950, there were 3,000 crocodiles at Bueng Sam Phan. He traveled by boat along the Pasak River through Ang Thong, Lop Buri, Chai Badan District, and Wichian Buri District until entering Bueng Sam Phan District, and then he caught a lot of crocodiles. It is said that there were more than 3000 crocodiles in the swamp, so it has been called Bueng Sam Phan for a long time until it was used as the name of the district of Bueng Sam Phan.
