Sinthao Salt PondNan Province is a big salt source and a majorly trading salt source in northern Thailand. There are 2 major salt ponds spot in Nan province. The first one is Wa upstream area, consist of 2 large salt ponds, and the second one is Nan upstream area, with 5 large salt ponds and many smaller ponds. Today, villagers still produce salt using traditional method. First step is bringing water from the pond to clarifier tank through a bamboo trunk, then boil the salt water in a large pan and simmer until the water dries out. However, the salt obtained by this method does not contain iodine like sea salt, so iodine must be added before selling to consumers.
