Department of Forestry surveyed the area and found that the forest was very abundant and was the origin of important water source. Many wildlife animal species were found here, so it was established as Phu Wua Wildlife Sanctuary which the area covers Nong Dern, Bung Khla, Khok Kwang Sub-district, Bung Khal District, Bann Tong and Sok Kam Sub-district, Se Ka District, Chai Phorn Sub-district, Bueng Kan District, and Tha Dok Khum Sub-district, Buen Khong Long District, Nong Khai Province, covering 124,662 rai or 199 km2. There are many interesting tourist sites to visit, especially Phu Wua Neua Tham Prai Viewpoint.
