Rice farming is a major occupation of Thai agriculturists from the ancient times to present. To convey and preserve the wisdom of rice farming in the past 30-40 years, Ajarn Riengchai Chamniyom decided to establish 'Thai Farmers’ Way of Life Museum of Ban Lan Laem' to offer Thai people an opportunity to learn with the virtual atmosphere. He prepared the site and the building since 1989 by planting Neem trees surrounding the house until they had fully grown. In 1998, he cut the trees to build the pillar of the museum planned to be “a Thai-style house tied with rattan”. The museum has been opened since September 19, 1999. The museum is divided into two sections. The first one is an office of the group of Lan Laem volunteer housewives for development, which provides visitors a brief background of Ban Lan Laem. The other section is to show handicraft products made from water hyacinth. The structure is built into a Thai-style house tied with rattan. At the space under the house, it is used to exhibit various types of folk items such as farming tools, household appliances, fishing tools, and carpentry tools, etc. In the same area, it is for the demonstration of rice milling, winnowing, panning, and measuring with a small basket to separate rice hulls from rice. On the upper floor, there are not many items. The available items are kitchen utensils and betel boxes because this floor is intended for visitors to experience the atmosphere of a farmer’s house in the old days; therefore, there are a kitchen and other necessary utensils displayed.
