Chumphon Gate is in Muang District, Nakhon Ratchasima. Pratu Chumphon is behind Thao Suranari Monument. Most visitors always come to this highly sacred place to pay respects to make their wishes come true. In addition, people believe if they pass through the gate for one time, they will come back to Korat soon, for two times, will work or stay in Korat, and for three times, they will meet a partner who is a local people in Korat. Formerly in the reign of King Narai, there were four city gates built as defense shelters. Unfortunately, there is only one remaining intact gate which is called Pratu Chumphon. There was a rebuilding of the other ruined three gates. Pratu Chumphon is unique, there is a small Thai-style wooden house above the gateway with roofing tiles decorated with gable apexes with toothlike ridges representing the back of Naga. The above house was like a city fortress for commanding when there was a war. The connecting part on both sides of the wall is in the shape of a parapet. Under the parapet, there is a hole with a crossing shaped for stealth observing the enemies.
